Terms of service
Effective 3 November 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and [Company legal name] ("we") for using Recora and its website. By creating an account or using the app, you accept them.
1. The service
Recora is a macOS app for recording, editing, captioning and exporting your screen and audio, together with an online account that holds your plan. Recordings are made and stored on your Mac; the account exists only to sign in and to unlock the app.
2. Your account
- You must be at least 16, and old enough to form a binding contract where you live.
- Keep your sign-in email secure. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
- One account belongs to one person. It can be signed in on up to 3 Macs at a time.
3. Free trial
New accounts get a 7-day free trial with every feature and no payment details. There is one trial per account and one per Mac. When it ends, the app becomes read-only until you choose a plan: you can still open, play and reveal your recordings, but not record, edit or export.
4. Plans, billing and renewal
- Plans are Monthly at $19 a month or Yearly at $108 a year, plus any taxes shown at checkout.
- Payments are handled by Dodo Payments, our merchant of record. Your purchase is also subject to Dodo's terms, and Dodo appears as the seller on your statement and invoices.
- Subscriptions renew automatically at the end of each period until you cancel. You can cancel at any time in Manage billing on your account page. Recora stays unlocked until the end of the period you've paid for.
- We'll tell you by email at least 30 days before any price change takes effect for your plan. The change applies from your next renewal.
- Payments are not refunded, because the free trial lets you try everything first. The exceptions (charging errors, and the cases in sections 7 and 8) are in our refund policy.
5. Licence
While your trial or subscription is active, we grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Recora on up to 3 Macs, for personal or business purposes. You may not resell, sublicense, reverse engineer (except where the law allows it), or work around the plan checks.
6. Your recordings and the law
Everything you record belongs to you, and we never receive it. You are responsible for how you use Recora. In particular, many places require everyone on a call to consent before it's recorded. Recora reminds you, but getting consent is up to you. Don't use Recora to record people unlawfully, or to capture content you have no right to copy.
7. Updates
Recora can download and install updates automatically; you can turn this off in Settings. We may add, change or remove features. If a change takes away something central to what you paid for, you can cancel and ask for a refund of the unused part of your current period.
8. Ending the agreement
You can stop at any time by cancelling your plan or deleting your account. We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, with notice where reasonable. If we stop offering Recora, we'll give at least 30 days' notice and refund the unused part of any prepaid period. Your recordings stay on your Mac in every case.
9. Disclaimers
Recora is provided "as is". We work to make it reliable, but we can't promise that every recording will succeed: hardware, macOS permissions or other apps can interfere. Keep copies of anything important. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer law that can't be waived.
10. Liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren't liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data, profits or recordings. Our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before it. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't legally be limited.
11. Changes to these terms
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and email account holders at least 30 days before the change takes effect. Continuing to use Recora after that means you accept the new terms; if you don't, you can cancel.
12. Law and contact
These terms are governed by the laws of [jurisdiction], without affecting mandatory consumer protections where you live. Questions: [support@your-domain].
